Known for his work as producer and MC from the groundbreaking group, Main Source, Large Professor is a legend in this rap game. He has produced tracks for Gangstarr, Nas and many others. His best work, I feel, is with Pete Rock and one collaboration that comes to mind is the track "The Rap Game" from the High School High Soundtrack. The beats are unparalleled and is straight up one of the illest beats ever created
Common Sense (The Bitch in Yoo)
Common (originally Common Sense) was a highly influential figure in rap's underground during the '90s, keeping the sophisticated lyrical technique and flowing syncopations of jazz-rap alive. Unfortunately, this 1996 12" came out as a really limited promo. "The Bitch In Yoo" is backed by a solid Pete Rock beat.
Onyx (Shout)
This 12" white label is a jazzy, dark, head-noddable Pete Rock beat and is placed behind traditional Onyx shouting, in-your-face brand of high-volume rapping screaming lyrics. There are three mixes, Main, Radio and Instrumental versions.
InI (Fakin Jax)
There is so much quality on each track with so much going on. You'll need to listen to the clips to understand what I mean. There are four versions, including instrumental, of Fakin Jax and bonus track titled Props which is unavailable on the LP.
Pete Rock featuring Grap Luva
(Beats and Rhymes)
There is confusion with this white label. Though the 12" is labeled "Everyman For Hisself" the track is actually "Beats and Rhymes". A live version and the original of "Everyman For Hisself" can be found later in this section. Produced by Pete Rock featuring Grap Luva.
DJ Krush featuring CL Smooth
(Only the Strong Survive)
Japanese turntablist and producer DJ Krush is one of the few island-nation throw-ups to be embraced by the global hip-hop world. He is one of the most well known names in the hip hop underground and broke all the barriers with the release of Meiso. CL Smooth provides lyrics for DJ Krush on "Only the Strong Survive".
Pete Rock featuring Deda
(Everyman For Hisself)
Pete Rock and Deda Baby come through with "Everyman For Hisself". The same record which caused confusion with "Beats Beats Beats". Soul Brother Recordings would like to thank Jurriaan de Rouw for contributing this to the collection.
A.D.O.R. (Shock Frequency)
Pete Rock, Diamond D, K. The Terrorbull, Willie Guns, Red Devil and Jamey Staub are just some of the names credited on this album. Pete Rock remixes "Let It All Hang Out", "Shock to Bliss" and "Shock Frequency".
Pete Rock featuring De La Soul
(Stay Away)
De La Soul formed while the trio — Posdnuos (Kelvin Mercer), Trugoy the Dove (David Jude Jolicoeur), Pasemaster Mase (Vincent Mason) — were attending high school in the late '80s. They collaborate with Pete Rock on the track "Stay Away" and is possible it was close to making Pete Rock's Soul Survivor LP.
A.D.O.R. (Enter the Center)
Pete Rock remixes A.D.O.R.'s "Enter the Center", from the album Shock Frequency. Other remix contributors include Willie Gunz and there's a RNS
INI (Grown Man Sport)
The Pete Rock created "Grown Man Sport" has a tuff intro which does not appear on the unofficial album and the B-side has the album version of "Center Of Attention". One fantastic undiscovered gem of a 12".
