The thing about a Pete Rock produced record is that it's meant to be digested over time. His beats don't just repeat and are slightly different every time around. Listen to some tracks on "Mecca and the Soul Brother"
("On and On", "Basement" or "Ghettos of the Mind") and you'll notice the drums change and there are no obvious patterns that repeat.
Diamond
(Hatred, Passions and Infidelity)
Diamond D is both lyricist and producer, and happens to be proficient at both tasks. Hatred, Passion, and Infidelity is his second solo album release. Pete Rock and Phife collaborate with him to create Painz and Strife. Big L, Lord Finesse, AG, Sadat X and K Terroribul all "Rock On" to add their creativity to this LP.
The Psycho Realm (The Stone Garden)
A hip-hop trio related to Cypress Hill and signed to their Ruffhouse label, the Psycho Realm was formed by Jacken and Duke. The duo's performances impressed Cypress Hill's B-Real so much he decided to join the group on the recording of the album.
Freddie Foxxx Bumpy Knuckles
(Industry Shakedown)
Bumpy Knuckles has been doing cameos in the hip-hop game for years; finally, with his debut album, Industry Shakedown, he truly gets to shine. The album features the production of the one and only DJ Premier, the ever-consistent Pete Rock, the slept-on Diamond D, and the up-and-coming Alchemist.
PM Dawn
(Looking Through Patient Eyes)
1993 Gee Street Records with Pete Rock working with PM Dawn.
Rah Digga (Dirty Harriet)
As the female member of hip-hop's Flipmode Squad (which also counts Busta Rhymes, Rampage, and Lord Have Mercy among its ranks), Rah Digga is one of rap's most prominent women MCs. Pete Rock produces "What They Call Me".
The Next Men (Break the Mould)
Pete Rock's Brother, Grap Luva, appears on this 12" and Pete's vocals are sampled.
Jesse Powell (I Wasn't With It)
Jesse Powell got his break when Louil Silas, Jr. heard him sing at an artist showcase. It was shortly thereafter that Silas signed Powell to a recording contract. His recordings include 1998's 'Bout It. Pete Rock remixes the track, "I Wasn't With It".
Monica
(Before You Walk Out Of My Life)
Atlanta vocalist Monica debuted in 1995 with the platinum, Top Ten singles "Don't Take It Personal (just one of dem days)" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life." Her second album, titled The Boy Is Mine, was released in July 1998.
Rakim (The Master)
Rakim is a hip-hop veteran who's been on the mic since 1985. He has always been known for his laid-back flow and, accordingly, he never pushes himself on this album. His flow is smooth, and will undoubtedly make hip-hop fans realize just what rhythm is after merely a few tracks.
Nas, InI, Das EFX, Method Man, Mobb Deep, Mic Geronimo and Busta Rhymes
(Live From New York)
Various artists feature on this remix album including Pete Rock and InI "coming straight from New York".
